Kingfisher MTB Enduro 2012

Kingfisher MTB Enduro 2012 posterAt last the 24th of March 2012 is almost here! This means that it’s time for the much awaited Kingfisher MTB Enduro! This event, one of the most picturesque and challenging races in the Enduro calendar, is not to be missed!

Catering for all levels of cyclists, the routes on offer take full advantage of the natural mountainous terrain and exquisite scenery, which guarantee all contestants an unforgettable experience. The inclusion of the indigenous Bergplaas State Forest and private farmland, ensure a unique route which is not accessible to riders at any other time. As the second leg of the Enduro series, it’s an absolute must for serious cyclists. So take this opportunity to compete with some of the best cyclists in the country!

After the positive feedback from the contestants last year, the 20km, 40km and 70km routes have remained unchanged. There will be fast flat sections along the Wilderness lakes, passing Island Lake, Rondevlei, Langvlei and Swartvlei (an international Ramsar site). The 40km route will include two big climbs (a total of ± 700m ascending climbs), superb forest and plantation sections and some very fast safe downhill sections. The 40km route will be within reach of most novice riders wanting a challenge but not quite ready for the higher intensity of the longer, more technical route. The 70km will follow the same new route and have a challenging 30km loop in the Bergplaas area in the Outeniquas. The 20km route has been specifically selected with families in mind. This is the perfect race for novice riders and cyclists who want to participate without exerting themselves too much.

The Kingfisher MTB Enduro, which has been successfully hosted by Hoekwil Primary School for more then 10 years now, is a wonderful family day out. Besides the three routes available, there is a 3km children’s race and 50m toddler’s scooter dash. A variety of food stalls and children’s entertainment will be on offer, as well as a babysitting service. Showers are available for after the race – some may need this more than others, and the free bike wash is just a ‘cherry on top’. This is the perfect excuse for a family camping trip away in one of the most beautiful areas of the Western Cape. By participating in this event, you contribute towards Hoekwil Primary’s future. We thank you for your support.
